The 12 inch heel, the confident gait, The measured steps, the sudden halt, The blush on cheeks, the smoldering eyes, The hands on hips, head held high, The silken gown, barely there, A tilt of neck, balanced well, The sultry glance, timed right, Perfect half twirl, played twice, With a graceful swirl, she turns back. The world looks on with stolen breath, Oohs, aahs, applauds, encores. The showstopper’s yesterday, Now hangs in a gallery, Fading parchment, guarded unnecessarily. No shadows of glamour come a-chasing, For vacant eyes and sagging skin, For shattering illusions, hanging questions, Am I never going back? Rhapsody resounds, resonating for eons, what'll be your echo?

Powerful one, Ruby...very nicely penned!
ReplyDeleteThank you Uma
DeleteOh awful ...echoes the cry of a female child, never born.... :-(
ReplyDeleteThank you Mridubala. And I am so relieved that the theme comes across
DeleteOh that is so sad. I had one of those, a baby that was never born. Still brings tears to my eyes. Very poignant and brilliantly penned with so much emotion.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry that you can relate to this, Kathy.
DeleteSad and powerful.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much
Deletewell written ruby :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Aditi
DeleteEnwombed is such a lovely word that I've never used before.
ReplyDeleteEven I used it for the first time, Cynk. I am glad you liked it. Thank you so much
DeleteSo sad. I liked your description.
ReplyDeleteThank you Marcy
DeleteSuch a heart-rending thing to miscarry a daughter late in the pregnancy. It's been 30 years and my mom still mourns the loss of my would be sister. I'll have to show her this piece.
ReplyDeleteI am really sorry that this touched a sour chord.
DeleteI like the fact that you used all the medical terms in here. Why, you even know about the APGAR score. And about the theme of this: Female foeticide, we need to keep remembering these issues and create awareness
ReplyDeleteThe APGAR score - I read it in a book and it stayed. I was nervous trying this theme but am glad I did.
DeleteHow sad. :( But you wrote this very beautifully!
