The 12 inch heel, the confident gait, The measured steps, the sudden halt, The blush on cheeks, the smoldering eyes, The hands on hips, head held high, The silken gown, barely there, A tilt of neck, balanced well, The sultry glance, timed right, Perfect half twirl, played twice, With a graceful swirl, she turns back. The world looks on with stolen breath, Oohs, aahs, applauds, encores. The showstopper’s yesterday, Now hangs in a gallery, Fading parchment, guarded unnecessarily. No shadows of glamour come a-chasing, For vacant eyes and sagging skin, For shattering illusions, hanging questions, Am I never going back? DeleteAn original and well done work, Ruby. Not only is the brink leeching colour in the sun, it's hardening against feeling any more pain. Good use of the prompt and I'm glad you took it a step further too. :)))

DeleteThat's a great observation Jo-Anne made above about the brick hardening against more pain. That's very true, and I think it's one of the things that makes your poem hit so hard, that and the deconstructing of red from its richest down to its flattest hue.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Kallan. I am really honored to hear such appreciation and encouragement.
DeleteDesiccated - that's how a broken heart can feel, when it's not pouring blood with pain. I loved this - we each have our own take on heartbreak.
