The sacred altar

One has to approach
This altar,
Naked.
Place the beating heart
At this sacred pedestal
And stand to worship.
Reach the deep insides
And surrender completely.
Burn away,
Slowly but intensely.
So, here I am.
My prayers rising
With the incensed mists.

  1. So lovely! Especially this:
    Burn away,
    Slowly but intensely.

  2. I am hoping that you are allowed a little "private" time when you have to approach this particular altar and not butt naked in front of an entire congregation. Seriously though, on the other hand, this is very effective where the person is baring their souls of all sins and transgressions, which on second thought is probably where you were actually going with this. All those prayers rising up to the heavens with the incensed mists...now that is a lovely piece of imagery. Nicely done Ruby! ♥

  3. All souls have to surrender to the Almighty. The action of baring one's deepest thoughts makes one free and naked. Beautiful out across.

  4. I love the way you've answered the question in the first two lines and then go on to describe the ritual so vividly. Beautiful!
