Mom, I am still hungry!

Dinner’s ready!
And so are we.
Ah! The aroma of the
Freshly baked chapattis
So welcoming.
And the motherly love
That comes in dollops
With every morsel.
Unbeatable!
“Done?” Mum asks,
“Done?”  I mull over
I hesitate.
Perhaps the color of my cheek answers.
For here comes another ladle,
Full of love.
Yummy!
The door bell rings
The mirage dissipates
Somewhere in the ringing.
I reluctantly take
The dinner parcel,
Unceremoniously set my plate,
Eat silently
And crave for that ladle
Of love. Of taste.
Mom, I am still hungry!

  1. There's nothing quite like Mom's home-cooked food, is there? I don't think we ever outgrow the longing for the comfort of Mom's cooking!

    Great job!

  7. Mom's cooking sounds even better when facing another take-out meal, too :) This makes me hungry for fried foods of my youth that I refuse to cook because they are so bad for you!

  11. I just realized I never clicked "publish" on my comment. Good golly, you'd think I'd never done this before.

    Ahem.

I meant to say. . .that my mother is a terrible cook, by her own admission. I was always jealous when others would say that there's nothing like their mom's cooking. I get the feeling they meant that differently than I did. ;-)

  13. You wrote a lovely tribute to your mother.

My father was the cook for us, my mother worked. The best meals I remember were when visiting my father's family. Farm cooking, everything was home grown. That, was awesome!

Ah,Moms know the best & nobody can beat their cooking!I can so relate to your poem cos when I was in the hostel(more than 2& half decades back)I used to miss home cooked food & the day I arrived I would give out my "farmaish",lol!Later on my daughter did that-she still misses her Nani & says no one can cook better than her, though she loves my cooking too.Loved the way you used the prompt-beautifully expressed:-)
