A is for ... Abundance

Awed by the excesses
That surround me.
The abundant
Abundance,
The plentiful supplies
Of love, peace, contentment,
Affection and happiness,
From some never-ending reserve,
Ample, infinite,
And more.
Much more.
All needs provided,
And all greed humbled,
With profusion
And plenitude.
Blest thus,
Bowed in reverence,
Prayers rise
From the depths.
Gratitude for the
Countless joys
And boundless riches,
Those come my way
Each day, every day,
Sanctifying my being.
Ever thankful
For thy amazing graces,
Precious, treasured,
Valued and wanted,
And the nimiety of same,
And thy mercy too,
I revel in the ecstasy
Of being thy cherished child.

For Boys also

Amidst the ballyhoo for women liberation, the masculine clique feels relegated. But their muted whispers are lost in the shrill and sonorous clamour.
Why, just the other day, fractious middle-aged lady shouted on a young man occupying the “ladies only”. The young lad, visibly annoyed, vacated the seat but his grouse was loud and riotous, “Guide me to the “males only” seats, if you will please!”
Today, slapped on four unreserved seats of the public conveyance were the words “FOR COLLEGE BOYS ONLY”.
The grumble is definitely growing. Perhaps, it is time to indulge the boys now.
Counterbalance and equipoise.

All for spectacles

I was the “ugly betty” of my class. Light brown, plastic-rimmed, thickest Gandhi lenses.
I would leave them for the last. And forget wearing them. Intentionally, ofcourse!
My sister, ever-the-punctual, would not wait for me to run back home.
Since I would not be wearing my set-of-eyes, my class-teacher would genially allow me to swap seats. And I loved front-rows.
But parents are witty enough. Been there, done it all kinda witty.
They got a glasses-holder string and down it went my neck along with the school-tie.
Problem solved.
And, specs? Oh well, am at home with them. And heart.

Vicious desires

Then I saw you.
Aglow. Alight.
And it was like
You and I
We were meant to be.
Always. Forever.
In that one moment,
One flash of a second,
I imagined my whole life with you.
Truly, Madly, Deeply,
I fell for you.
You, who were
All light, all fire, all power, all beauty.
I, a mere moth,
Bewitched by your
Flickering dance,
Rushed to embrace you,
To seal
What I felt was mine
With passion.
Your very touch
Seared me through.
Singed,
I let my
Vicious desires
Consume me.
Satiated,
I abandoned myself
In the bosom of
My infatuation.

Permanently piled-up

The writing barely legible,
More like
Scribbling
Or as mum used to put it,
The gait of
A centipede
Soused in ink.
No amount of
“Finger-exercising”,
As the teachers
Used to put it,
Helped improve.
Yes,
The writing barely legible!
Each home-visit,
I sit down to
Clean up
The little mahogany-bureau,
From where
They keep falling down,
Bits of papers,
Fractured poems, prose, verses;
Random, inarticulate,
Ambitious attempts.
Little creased capsules,
From yesterday,
Those end up
Being smoothed,
Read,
Re-read
And caressed.
The caplets,
Filling up
The capsule,
Dissolving
With time.
Every visit,
The pile is sorted,
But never screened.

Opaline iridescence

Over a cup of coffee,
We
Decided our life.
As the orangish hues
Streaked the skies,
Overtalked
About the
Oncoming Odyssey.
Okayed our presence
In our lives
Under the
Obscuration of the moon.
Becoming oxygen.
Covertly and
Yet so overtly,
Desirous
Of one another.
Overtaking,
Overcoming
And overwhelming
Anchor.
Over the pious flames,
And amidst
A thousand omens,
We vowed.
Opting sanctimoniously
To obstinately,
Obdurately
Live together
Till
Death does us apart.
Infantile gaming
Over the rocking cradle,
Occasionally racking our brains
Over
Chemistry and physics.
Over a cup of coffee,
In an old-age home,
We remembered
The opaline iridescence.

Masquerade

Robbed of my own self
I weave through
The labyrinth
Masquerading
Behind
The curtains
That
Mind pulls over heart.
The search within
Becoming a struggle,
The search without
Meaningless.
I am but
Fragments.
Like
Broken sentences.
Beneath
The skin
And the bones
I am nothing
But hollow.
Empty spaces fill me up.
I am but a deception.
A house of cards,
Ready to crumble
At slightest breeze.
Some light remains perhaps,
Through the cracks
Now and then,
But mostly
I am obscure,
Dwelling in twilights,
Just another
Mask
In milieu.
A masquerade,
That being my existence,
I leave no imprints.

Suspirations of spring

Fifth day of spring. Yellow turbans of mustard swaying in the fields. Yellow from the wardrobes to yellow on the platter. The warmth is engulfing and enveloping. Hymns float. Devotions, festivities and fervor abound. The spell of winter is broken. The ambers of the hearth have melted the heart of the skies. And so we celebrate. Fasting and feasting. Praying and playing. Singing and dancing. We hail the onset of warmer days with vasant raag and kites. The yellow rebellion defeats the winters and the joys reach out to the blues yonder. Thousand winters die. Heart full of spring lives.
