Voice of silence

The silent spaces,
a retreat,
from the cacophony of life,
into reflections;
A quest,
towards all answers,
the silence holds
secrets of eternity.
Revelations, in the stillness.
The unresolved threads
of our journey,
getting all tied up neatly,
rather, hemmed,
into a beautiful pattern.
Tapping into the silence,
resting in stillness,
learning,
the art of being.

Lost wanderers

And they started...
On a long road.
Miles of journey.
One burning desire.
To reach their homes,
to that embrace of love.
Setting skies did not matter.
Nor did rising sun.
Like birds at eventide,
they flew back,
to their only shelter in this storm.
Migrants,
that’s what they call them,
these itinerants afoot,
yearning, pining for their nests.
In verity though,
we are all migratory birds.
Tiny specks,
lost wanderers on this atlas.
Ramblers in search of our haven,
somewhere within the deepest,
quietest chambers of our own heart,
where the soul strums in rhythm.
Definitely, a long road ahead.
Miles of journey,
meandering curves,
wilderness too.
One burning desire.
To reach home.

Hark! The siren song

Hark! The siren song.
The war has begun.
Against the invisible,
but not the invincible.
The conquest ahead,
herculean.
In it, together.
Now,
the thrill of victory,
be exhilarating.
Amen.

Humbled

The reign
of the most evolved,
most sophisticated,
masterminds,
ever striving,
to prove their might,
their supremacy
crippled and maimed today,
incapacitated
by a mere microscopic,
minuscule fragment of life.
Everything and yet nothing.

I close my post with the following Sanskrit Shloka:

Shanti Paath

oṃ sarve bhavantu sukhinaḥ
sarve santu nirāmayāḥ
sarve bhadrāṇi paśyantu mā kaścidduḥ khabhāgbhaveta।
oṃ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ॥
सभी सुखी होवें,
सभी रोगमुक्त रहें,
सभी मंगलमय घटनाओं के साक्षी बनें और किसी को भी दुःख का भागी न बनना पड़े।
ॐ शांति शांति शांति॥
May all sentient beings be at peace,
may no one suffer from illness,
May all see what is auspicious, may no one suffer.
Om peace, peace, peace.

Clarion Call

A lonely birdsong
in the pre-dawn ghostly hours,
the strained, drained plea
of Mother Earth,
withered and writhing,
breathing apart
“Whither are we bound? “
The question glares at us
in our insomniac stupor.
We the somnambulists,
wandering towards a mirage,
hear it, clear and distinct,
but will we heed?
And that too, when there’s time still?
Or will this be our eternal regret?
That we erased all songs
from the heart of earth
to record our emptiness.

Shades of life

Eerily empty,
places all around, forsaken.
No scampering feet,
no jostling crowds,
no haggling customers,
no springtime frolicking.
Nothing.
The fountain sings alone,
old coins rusting at its base.
No hushed secrets,
no whispered confessions,
no more a witness
to furtive kisses.
Everywhere, all around,
a ghostly silence,
thick grey shroud,
beneath which,
the questions lurk,
the whats, whos, wheres,
their answers eluding,
confounding.
Deep inside the caves,
there is science and reason,
the protections, the preventions.
Out in the garden,
the flowers are blooming,
red and yellow and white
and the birds are chirping
and cat, basking in sunshine.

Fledglings of Falcon

The wailing walls of Sirhind,
stand in sombre solitude.
The howling chilling winds,
the numbing weeping waters of Sarsa,
bemoan and grieve.
Eternally condemned
and permanently blotted,
these coffers
rocked Thy tender kids
to quietus.
The supple souls,
seasoned spirits,
and their ominous farewell,
Soil of Sirhind,
(fortunate enough
that such pious feet
walked on it
and regrettably unfortunate
to have become their deathbed) ,
witnessed
what we dare not dream.
Unwavering, unflinching,
unswerving and unyielding,
subtle yet strong,
the fledglings of falcon.
embraced their pallbearers
with smiles on their faces.
And this is their legacy.
They were bricked alive.
But they never died.
And never can they.

Rest in peace

A blessed soul of the community departed. He was a saintly spirit and Lord Almighty had graced him with the gift of music. Even though he could not see, yet he was so good at his craft that he was revered. I remember the sheer excitement which ran through my folks when he visited the town. They made that extra effort not to miss the time allotted to him in the Kirtan Darbar. With every breath he thanked Lord for the blessings He had bestowed upon him and it so seemed that every timehhe sounded more blessed in his craft. Unwavering in his faith till his last breath, he became a legend for the community. I, though not a very committed member of community, do cherish the times I heard him sing Gurbani and Shabad. And I don't know why, today, I feel that void in me, a bit of hollowness like I lost a distant relation, some faraway family member. My 100 words for his Faith...

‘Tis faith that inspired,
instilled the spirit,
to fly, even with broken wings.
And it is with faith alone,
that the fluttering whizzing,
was steadied.
Faith, that guided his hands
so that he strummed
those melodious hymns
that sang Thy praises.
Faith that granted vision to his heart,
to see Thy generous face
in the rising and falling octaves.
And it is with faith in Thee,
that he walks today,
through the Golden Gates of heaven,
leaving behind vacuity and silence.
Angels weep out of jealousy,
as they meet Thy Chosen Child.
Forever Yours,
he is now, forever with Thee.

Haze

In that ashen pallor of landscape,
wearing
not the beauteous wintery-white
but the toxic smokey shroud;
beneath that grey blanket,
that thick, hazy and gloomy spread;
midst that smothered afterglow of twilight,
we experience the quavers of doom.
Is it too late?
We shiver.

Forlorn

I stare at the blank black screen,
scroll through notification feeds,
obsessively check the settings for ringer volume,
scan the social media, frequently and regularly
scribble irrelevant notes,
patiently converting them to irrelevant poems.
Not a word. No message. No call. Not yours at least.
And then somewhere between dawn and dusk, I fall asleep.
Only to wake up. With your name on my lips.
I know you won’t be there but still I move over to your side.
Breathe in the scent of your pillow and lull myself to sleep.
Trust me, I have never felt this lonely before.

Seeking semblance

Ma!
May I lie down
and
rest my tired soul
in your lap.
Here I am,
weary, wobbly,
washed out with fatigue.
Oh! lull me to sleep
so that
the chaos outside
ceases to be.
Will some order,
a bit of sanity,
in my life,
through your prayers.
And cook me a meal
(a great fan of yours)
of strength and love
for I need both
as it is dark outside
and though I can
fight the clouds,
the eclipse,
now that’s something
I can’t fight,
at least not alone.
So ma, help me heal
and
help me rise.
Again.

Foundations

Awkward laughs,
deep conversations,
speaking silences…
Like steel beams and
nuts and bolts,
pillar on pillar,
we built our foundations,
step by step, breath by breath.
The process engraved in grey matter,
translates into a plot of bestselling romance.
And then suddenly,
dark shadows eclipse these foundations,
these pedestals on which
we had built the tower
of our togetherness.
The orange globe of our love melts
into the freezing sea,
blending in to the purple of night.
Thus, I see our image
at the nature’s crossroads,
waiting for the ambient light.
