The 12 inch heel, the confident gait, The measured steps, the sudden halt, The blush on cheeks, the smoldering eyes, The hands on hips, head held high, The silken gown, barely there, A tilt of neck, balanced well, The sultry glance, timed right, Perfect half twirl, played twice, With a graceful swirl, she turns back. The world looks on with stolen breath, Oohs, aahs, applauds, encores. The showstopper’s yesterday, Now hangs in a gallery, Fading parchment, guarded unnecessarily. No shadows of glamour come a-chasing, For vacant eyes and sagging skin, For shattering illusions, hanging questions, Am I never going back? Ha! I love this! (: Now I'll feel rebellious every time I go out with my gloves and jacket this winter.
ReplyDeleteThank you Draug. I already feel like one.
DeleteYes, one must prepare to take on the chilly air of winter :)
ReplyDeleteYou already know I will second these thoughts :)
DeleteSometimes I wonder if I like crocheting for the sole purpose of spreading the expanding afghan on my legs to keep warm. I don't like being cold.
ReplyDeleteThis is so thoughtfully and beautifully said. I can almost feel the warmth of the expanding afghan radiating.
DeleteI love that too.
DeleteUgh. Winter and I do NOT get along. :-) I can definitely relate.
ReplyDeleteThank you editors. I always look forward to hear from you. I wish you a pretty cozy winters ahead.
DeleteInteresting way to look at fending off the winter cold! Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteThank you Lumdog. I like your perspective of viewing this. We are on the same page.
Deleteahhh, such a good 33, mostly because I truly dislike winter. I hate having to wear a coat. I do...I rebel against it as much as I can, thick sweaters, a run from the car to whereever. ;)
ReplyDeletethis was so good in showing that distain, that we must build an arsenal against it.
Why thank you Kir. I am glad you liked these 33. I was not thinking very highly of them when I posted.
DeleteIndeed we are, Ruby. However, Chicago is having a brief yet lovely warm up. 66 today and yaaaay! I really loved this but I love the warmth of winter.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like I need to shift to Chicago. I love dressing up in winters. The coats and jackets happen to be my favorite.

ReplyDeleteI nominated you for a liebster award!
Thank you so much for Liebster. I am so honored and so grateful for this award. The detailed post will come a little later though.
DeleteGreat write. Hooray for keeping warm!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. Wishing warm winters to you too :)
DeleteWe Irish are never ready for winter! Thank fully we hardly ever get it too bad!
ReplyDeleteIts heartening to hear this sentiment. I am sitting here typing with literally numb fingers.
DeleteNo, I will never be ready for winter. My tropical upbringing deals with the chill of winter, but it is never welcome. Ugh! The bother of putting on those layers.... Sometimes, I feel like the little teapot after I bulked up for the cold. :-)
ReplyDeleteI like the way you put it - little teapot after I bulked up. Winters - white and chilly, not a welcome but now that they are here, guess we got to fight them.
DeleteAww. This entry is one of the sweetest I've read. God, I wish it were cold here in New Orleans. My kids wore shorts today!
ReplyDeleteYou are kidding me right? Even though I like wearing warm clothes, I can do better with sun and warm weather. It is only early December, and the distant hills are covered with snow and we have not had sun for last couple of days. It is sooooo cold here.
DeleteI'm never ready, and it's hardly ever winter here. Oh, but now I'm freezing, thanks!
ReplyDeleteIt is so good to hear that it's hardly ever winter there. I am planning to shift to all these places. Thank you Kymm.
DeleteThis is great! I never thought of it this way. I'm now looking at my new coat as upgraded body armor.
ReplyDeleteRe-reading this, I got a visual of Arnold Schwarzenegger gearing up on the beach in Commando. Awesome!
I like your re-reading part. That makes me so happy. Though I have not seen Arnold in Commando. Well, pick up the armors and join the soldiers :)
