Fledglings of Falcon

The wailing walls of Sirhind,
stand in sombre solitude.
The howling chilling winds,
the numbing weeping waters of Sarsa,
bemoan and grieve.
Eternally condemned
and permanently blotted,
these coffers
rocked Thy tender kids
to quietus.
The supple souls,
seasoned spirits,
and their ominous farewell,
Soil of Sirhind,
(fortunate enough
that such pious feet
walked on it
and regrettably unfortunate
to have become their deathbed) ,
witnessed
what we dare not dream.
Unwavering, unflinching,
unswerving and unyielding,
subtle yet strong,
the fledglings of falcon.
embraced their pallbearers
with smiles on their faces.
And this is their legacy.
They were bricked alive.
But they never died.
And never can they.

'Tis the season

The flakes of peace blanketing this earth,
and love smoldering in every hearth,
the feast of childhood and warm circle of folks,
melody in songs, laughter and wild jokes,
gifts that say we care,
grace and blessings here,
Lord in our hearts, and a spirit that never grows old,
a coin for charity, joyous traditions replayed and retold.
The glow of happiness, lamps and light.
Never the winter, with such a Christmas bright.

Rest in peace

A blessed soul of the community departed. He was a saintly spirit and Lord Almighty had graced him with the gift of music. Even though he could not see, yet he was so good at his craft that he was revered. I remember the sheer excitement which ran through my folks when he visited the town. They made that extra effort not to miss the time allotted to him in the Kirtan Darbar. With every breath he thanked Lord for the blessings He had bestowed upon him and it so seemed that every timehhe sounded more blessed in his craft. Unwavering in his faith till his last breath, he became a legend for the community. I, though not a very committed member of community, do cherish the times I heard him sing Gurbani and Shabad. And I don't know why, today, I feel that void in me, a bit of hollowness like I lost a distant relation, some faraway family member. My 100 words for his Faith...

‘Tis faith that inspired,
instilled the spirit,
to fly, even with broken wings.
And it is with faith alone,
that the fluttering whizzing,
was steadied.
Faith, that guided his hands
so that he strummed
those melodious hymns
that sang Thy praises.
Faith that granted vision to his heart,
to see Thy generous face
in the rising and falling octaves.
And it is with faith in Thee,
that he walks today,
through the Golden Gates of heaven,
leaving behind vacuity and silence.
Angels weep out of jealousy,
as they meet Thy Chosen Child.
Forever Yours,
he is now, forever with Thee.

Welcome the clown

The prompt word is clown. And I am delving into descriptive poetic form called Cinquain. The sheer joy that the whitefaced clown spreads, an image so vividly inscripted in our minds. Who knows what he feels behind his mask, it is the laughter that he can elicit from his audience that matters.
And as the wise say, it is healthy to be a clown for a little while in this circus of life.
For that brave spirit, I ink my words...

Jester.
Comic. Clumsy.
Juggling. Joking. Joshing.
Silly escapades. Sublime smiles.
Buffoon.

This is us !!!

The chaos outside, that cacophonous milieu,
with the typical incessant, inharmonious chatter.
And then I hear you speak,
rich, sonorous syllables,
in a rich, sonorous tone.
And suddenly all voices fade,
noises recede to the backgrounds,
becoming unnecessary and irrelevant.
The echo of your words,
ringing till long after
in the deepest corners of my heart,
like a calming rein on the wayfaring mind.
This is us.
You and me, winding down in each other’s company,
finding our own sense of calm in being together.
Our hearts, those perfect zen corners,
crafted with passion and
embellished with vivacious love chimes.

Being hopeful

For the prompt given by @baffled, I have attempted a Collom Lune.
How often do we come across the scattering in the narrow stream of light. The haze, the aura so mystic. I tried to capture that trivial moment in my words. More so, the hope that the thin beam embodies.
Let us all be hopeful always.

Through the cracks,
a narrow beam of light,
suffuses the soul.
Wrapped in glow,
miniscule particles of pure joy,
a bounteous harvest.

Remnants of you

The hazy afterglow of
tender caress, light touch,
and soft subtle whispers.

The lackluster farewell of
dissolving sand-castles, receding waves
and wrinkled creased bedspreads.

Remnants of you, everywhere.

Buck up

Days come to an end, dreams don't. There's miles to go before we sleep...

Twilight,
wild wings
seek sheltered nook.

Fledglings,
back home,
await their gifts.

Disquieting,
lurking what-ifs
raise their heads.

Unheeding
sunset ahead,
deferred dreams instigate.

Hurrah!
some elbow-grease,
you’re almost there.

On the edge

In the last fortnight, there have been incidents when the air quality of our national capital has deteriorated alarmingly. It is the wake up sign.. If not us then who, if not now then when... The mother nature is waiting for some answers...

The thick shroud of smog;
goodbye whisper of autumn,
stuck in hazy dusk;
the raging echo of our callousness;
dismal glower of Nature;
looming question of doom!

Enlightenment

Today, as the world celebrates 550th Prakash Parv of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, I extend my Heartiest greetings to you and yours. On this auspicious day,  I see devotion, elation, happiness and celebration all around.

The chant of your name,
the rosary of my breath,
life, thus, worthier.
And what an excellent pious barter.
I hold your hand with faith, Lord,
you walk me through the mists.

Thy name, my refuge

As you walk with Guru, you walk in the light of existence, away from the darkness of ignorance, you leave behind all the problems of your life.
A haiku inspired from this thought... Heartiest greetings for Gurupurab...

Thy name’s holy thread,
mends my tattered and frayed soul,
in thee, my refuge.

Skindeep

Underneath the silken layers,
sans the make-up and the hair-do,
without the dash of code red lipstick
and perfectly lined eyes,
beyond the glowing radiant skin,
your soul painted in perfection.
So come to me, as you are,
minus all these masks.
You, with all your scars and flaws,
pure, authentic and real,
glowing from somewhere deep inside.
And I shall love you sweetheart,
with all my heart,
for how you are made up.

Haze

In that ashen pallor of landscape,
wearing
not the beauteous wintery-white
but the toxic smokey shroud;
beneath that grey blanket,
that thick, hazy and gloomy spread;
midst that smothered afterglow of twilight,
we experience the quavers of doom.
Is it too late?
We shiver.

When you become your own muse

That moment,
when you look in the mirror
and feel like tucking that stray hair properly,
when you run the kohl
on the lower eye line,
smooth, smoky, a little smudged too,
when you feel
like matching all your accessories right
and looking perfect,
when you want
the mirror to smile back at you
and say “Hello beautiful ! “
Because you are in love,
not the cliché romanticism,
but smitten,
by the sheer beauty of life,
the adventures of journey
and endeavours for reaching happy horizons.
For a blind date with life,
part dressed,
I look up in the mirror
and smile at that girl,
with curls let loose and
painted lips puckered up,
ready to kiss her partner.

Lost in the stars

Lying on our backs,
in summer blankets,
gazing at the dome of the sky,
the stars and constellations
sprayed like fine glittering Mukaish.
Our silences talk.
The sky lights up
with the ecstatic dance
of a shooting star.
Hasty forget-me-not wish.
Quick stay-by-me-always wish.
And then I fall asleep.
Cozily nestled on your arm.
Such perfect Kodak moments.

we looked for

bartering our yesterdays
for prettier tomorrows.
And in our shopping spree,
we bought tiny little moments,
all for free.

Drugged on life

Tiny little moments,
infinitesimally small,
simple, ordinary affairs,
served with extra dollop of love,
that take my breath away.
Life happens in
such slow old-school fragments.
And like a slow poison,
they blend,
infusing and diffusing in veins,
interwoven so intricately,
assimilated so seamlessly
that we cannot tell them apart.
The dose thoroughly monitored
and balanced.
Until the addiction consumes us.
Totally.
Merry hearts intoxicated
with the beauty
that this momentary Sojourn holds,
they drink the tonic slowly,
and the aftertaste,
that yummilicious vanilla essence, lingers.
Drugged on life and proudly so.
The intoxication contagious,
I hope the spirit spreads.

Vijayadashami

The spirit resonating,
with the dhak of dhol.
The circle of life:
the august arrival,
the meaningful sojourn,
the splendorous farewell,
celebrated with fervour.
The journey of soul,
through nine waxing moons,
taking us a step closer,
to the divinity within;
a step away,
from the devil,
that lurks
in deep dark kernels.
From the adrift,
erring, and wandering Ravana
towards the abundant,
the prosperous,
the blissed, and the blessed Rama.
Blush, bliss and beauty for us,
dance, devotion and divinity for us,
skill, strength and security for us.
Hold us till we meet again.
Jai Ma. Jai Jai Ma.
